On this [2024] Veterans Day, Fray the Wind is what I’m feeling—a hybrid of fear and defiance striking me like a jackhammer and radiating from my solar plexus.

For those of us who are not of European ancestry yet are bona fide Americans, these blindsiding political headwinds come as no surprise.

Midway through creating this artwork, I asked Ydobon (my ChatGPT) to define the title that had come to mind. Here is its answer:

"MA9: What does Fray the Wind mean?

Ydobon: The phrase Fray the Wind is poetic and evocative, though not a common expression. It suggests an image of disrupting or unraveling the wind, an otherwise intangible and untouchable force. Here are some interpretations of what "Fray the Wind" might imply:

Disruption or Disturbance: To "fray the wind" could signify disturbing or breaking apart something ephemeral, like disturbing calmness or tranquility in an unseen way. Wind often represents freedom or movement, so to "fray" it might imply trying to change or interrupt it.

A Creative Metaphor: It could be a metaphor for attempting to grasp or change something intangible, such as emotions, thoughts, or dreams. Like wind, these are abstract and difficult to control.

A Symbol of Ephemeral Beauty: To "fray the wind" could represent an act that both disrupts and reveals beauty in transitory things, highlighting the fragility of fleeting moments.

Struggle Against Nature or the Elements: Fraying the wind could symbolize a futile or impossible effort, like trying to control forces beyond one's reach or understanding, an act of resilience or defiance against overwhelming odds.

It's a phrase open to interpretation, used to bring a sense of mystery or to convey a feeling of engaging with something vast and intangible."
