The Conductor

Candid portrait of a train conductor walking across the great hall at Grand Central Station in New York City, 2019. These guys have tough jobs. And you can read it in his body language. Or maybe the harshness of the city is written on his body. I have seen conductors of trains millions of times sticking their head out of subway cars, or as in the case of this man, I have seen his like collecting tickets from passengers. Nameless women and men who power and undergird the infinite  machinery of this city. This man reminds me of a reliable uncle.
