doppelgänger
Candid portrait of a man walking in Grand Central Station, New York City, 2019.
A few years ago, I lived in a small city in South America where people would occasionally approach me, mistaking me for someone else, only to realize I wasn’t who they thought. I never ran into my doppelgänger there, but it left me thinking. We live in a time where we often reinvent ourselves many times throughout a single life. I’ve met people who express entirely different sides of themselves, who keep distinct sets of friends separate from one another.
How many sides do each of us have? And who do we reveal those sides to? Or has it always been the case that we evolve multiple times into different versions of ourselves, and only now are we becoming aware of it?

Passenger
This series features candid photographic portraits capturing individuals walking through Grand Central Station, New York City.
Initially, the work emerged from a purely aesthetic exploration—an attempt to document how the soft, natural light in Grand Central Station shapes and transforms the impressions of body and facial expressions. I aimed to calibrate both camera and lens to evoke the ether-like, ephemeral qualities of impressionism, experimenting with ways to achieve this effect through post-production recoloring.
However, as primary source documents, these images also engage with broader inquiries into socioeconomic class, culture, power, and agency. As a Latin American immigrant, I have been acutely aware of how public spaces impose invisible, repressive boundaries that dictate who is allowed access, and under what conditions. In the U.S., your identity—where you come from, what you look like—shapes your access to public spaces, inclusion, and opportunities for power, knowledge, and survival. This series is a snapshot of "who" has access to this colossal hall on an ordinary day, but it also highlights "who" is missing, those excluded by circumstances of race, class, or status.
I am deeply committed to documenting individuals in public spaces, creating site-specific visual ethnographies that can speak to future generations about who we were in this moment of history. My fascination with ancient Maya, Greek, and Egyptian sculpture and painting informs this investigation. Just as these cultures captured the essence of their time, I strive to portray the individuals of my era—though my tools are photographic, capturing not only their physical presence but also a glimpse into their psyche.
Recognizing that true objectivity is impossible, I used protocols inspired by Merce Cunningham's chance methods in dance choreography and randomized procedures from archaeological excavations to maximize any attempt at neutrality. This approach allowed for a more balanced representation of those who crossed my path in Grand Central Station, creating a more authentic visual ethnography of this public space.
EDITIONS
EDITIONS
For those new to art collecting, "editions" refer to the limited number of prints produced from a single original artwork. Editions protect the exclusivity and value of each print, making it essential for collectors to understand the difference between rare and limited editions.
Under the ARTWORKS menu, I am committed to offering rare editions to guarantee exclusivity and high value for collectors. Each artwork in these collections is produced in extremely limited quantities, with only 3 prints available for larger sizes and 5 for smaller sizes. Some series are even more exclusive, offered in only one size with an edition of 3.
Under the EVOKE menu, my series will feature limited editions with up to five size options. Editions for these artworks range from 27 prints for smaller sizes to 5 for larger ones, ensuring scarcity while offering more accessibility for collectors.
RARE EDITION
A rare edition is more exclusive than a limited edition, signifying extreme scarcity with very few prints available.
Typical Range: Rare editions under the ARTWORKS menu typically include fewer than five prints, sometimes as few as three.
Value: Due to their extreme rarity, these prints are highly valuable and sought after by collectors.
Numbering: Rare editions are numbered and signed by the artist.
LIMITED EDITION
A limited edition refers to a fixed number of prints produced from a single image. Once this number is reached, no further prints are made, preserving their scarcity.
Typical Range: Under the EVOKE menu, limited editions range from 27 prints for smaller sizes to 5 for larger sizes.
Value: Limited edition prints are more accessible than rare editions, yet still maintain exclusivity.
Numbering: Each limited edition print is numbered and signed by the artist.
EXCLUSIVITY
Each series consists of a maximum of 18 to 27 artworks. Once an edition for an artwork is sold out, no more prints will be available. Once all editions in a series are sold out, the entire series will be considered sold out, ensuring the exclusivity and enduring value of each piece and series as a whole.
In summary, while both limited and rare editions indicate a finite number of prints, rare editions under the ARTWORKS menu are more exclusive and scarce, while limited editions under the EVOKE menu offer more accessibility. This distinction is crucial for collectors and galleries as it directly influences the market value and desirability of the prints.
